Lighting problems 200

My 242 has no dash lights. I found that the wire to the connector is just fine but the sleve in the connector isn't making contact. I closed it together really tight and when I put it al back together I had dash lights for about 5min until I closed the door and after that I lost the connection again. What i'm planing on doing is removing the guage assembly. Soldering in a new wire directly to the circuit board and running a new female blade connector right to the extra connection on the rheostat.
