1994 Turbo Wagon 960 with Shift Lock problem 900 1994

This just started happening about a month ago. The shift lever will not leave the park position unless the shift "release button" is pressed. This is now always happening. Once the shift is in drive it will move freely with no problem. But as soon as I put it in park the only way to get it to another gear is to press the shift release. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
