HELP! The demon in the wires. 200 1986

Just bought an '86 240DL - Manual Transmission.

It's got a few electrical problems and a couple "pirate" circuits for headlights and stereo.

Something's grounding because I get a small shock when I touch the body.

Here are the electrical problems i'm having:

1) Wacky Temperature guage - Sparatically indicates Extremely High temp. This must be an electrical problem because i've replaced the coolant, thermostat, and ran the engine with the temp sensor disconnected, and it still reads high.

2) Overdrive - Upon reconnecting the switch, the overdrives is "moody": sometimes too excited, other times not cooperative. I assume that sometimes there isn't enough current to push the sun into the planets, but i can't explain why it would independantly try to activate / shut off.

I'm mentally prepared to replace the harness myself, but there's got to be other options.

All help is welcome.
Thank you.
