The '86 240 my son now drives (248k mi) has the same remote setup I put on in 1992 at 110k. No problems. I tie-wrapped some foil around the hoses near the exhaust area.

I like removing the filter straight down with a margarine tub to catch the drips (less mess on the motor mount too). And you can prefill the filter before installation.
