1989 volvo stumped on gas door 700

Recently my gas door isn't catching anymore. The pin goes in and out with the lever and the switch but I am not sure if the pin should come out further.
Can someone give me a measurement on how far the pin goes out in cm or inches.
Does the pin go much into the door hole or just makes it in..thanks in advance....Jeffry
