Replacement odometer gear doesn't work 200

I replaced the odometer gear and reset button (both were broken) on my '91 245; however, the odometer still will not work. I have removed the instrument cluster several times to check if the gear is properly installed (I think it is) and that all of the pins are in place (they are). What gives?
