89 740 Shift button popped out! 700 1989

I've got an '89 740 with the automatic transmission, and the center shift button has detacthed itself. The plastic button is still on the rod that goes down into the shifter body. I was able to remove the console cover and get a good look at the ass'y, and I can't see any damage. I was able to put it back in once, and then it popped right back out the next day.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Robb
