Irregular/rough idle on 87 760 turbo 700

I've been trying everything that I'm able to do to fix a slightly rough, rythmically surging idle. The roughness seem worse that the fluctuation but both may be intertwined. I've replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, fuel filter and air cleaner. I've cleaned the throttle body and replaced the fuel injector seals. The timing is on the mark. The car is in great shape with only 54,000 miles on it. I've made an appointment with the shop for next week for them to diagnose it but I thought I'd try the forum board in the meantime. Is there a way to test the idle speed motor without removing it? I hate to replace that unless I really know that is the problem. Could it be something else like a sensor or somthing? Thanks
