Difference in Differential Fluid? 200

This concerns the standard 3.91:1 rear axle hypoid gear fluid: GL5 vs GL4 in a 1980 242 DL, B21F with M45 transmission.

Ok, I read on some FAQ (here or Swedishbrick.net) that I now can't find it that GL5 is an absolute no-no and can damage the gear. Tonight, I read on my ALLDATA specs that GL5 is recommended.

Adding to the confusion, I changed my gear fluid today, after 2.5 years and about 20k miles. The fluid was absolutely clear and no shavings were in the drain plug magnet.
