I'm beginning to fix up the interior of my '80 245 DL... I'll soon be removing the headliner and carpets to clean everything up.
When I remove this stuff, is there something I put on the floor or above the headliner to lower the noise? It's not terrible right now, but it is noticeable. What types of products are out there to do this job right?
I'm also thinking about adding some sort of insulation inside the doors. Any ideas what I should use? Also, what makes a good water shield replacement for those door panels? (I just had another one rott out on me... GRR...)
When I pull up the carpets, what should I expect to find? I recall reading that there is some sort of sponge like foam, but I don't want to run into any surprises. I know how to get the carpet out, but I just haven’t done it before.
I just replaced the entire back seat assembly (complete with the cargo area floor,) and it looked like I could add some sort of padding/insulation under that as well. I'd probably have to make a cut out for the gas tank access panel, but other then that, is there any risk here?
What else should I do with the carpet and headliner out? Tailgate wiring harnesses have already been replaced. I'm planning on adding seat heaters as well, so should I lay down the wiring for that when the carpet is up, or can it wait?
Thanks for any advice. With the help of this board, my car's interior won't look like it's been through 425K miles anymore, hopefully.
