Loss of power 200 1984

My problem is a loss of power when accelerating. I had a tune up in Dec. & had a exhaust repair in Jan. My question is what would cause me to lose power. The engine is idling fine and was running great. I thought it was the catalytic converter, but when the shop diagnosed it they saud it was fuel pump related, so they went ahead and fixed that. After they fixed it they sayed they adjusted the timing accuator and I may want to keep an eye on it & replace it soon. I have been told by a knowledgable volvo guy that the accuator has not appeared on a 240 since '79. Well two days after I am having the same exact problem, loss of power and my exhaust sounds like an import tuner! Any advice?
