I am just wondering what's the possibility of all four of the speed sensor (crank position sensor), the sensor connector, the pre-pump, and the main pump failing at the same time or nearly the same time. Please note the speed sensor failure will not give you sparks. Fuel pump failures will not give you fuel (or adequate fuel pressure.)
My new mechanic, whom I went to because of his reputation of a Volvo specialist, just left a voice mail saying that's what he found and this was after a one-week saga of back and forth communication with the car in his possession. My own original diagnosis was the speed sensor. He told me the second day it was the pre-pump. Then he replaced the speed sensor, but said it was the sensor connector, which failed wiggle test. Two days later he said there was only 80 kPa of pressure, and the pre-pump, sending unit, and filter screen needed to be replaced. After these, yesterday he said I had a king-sized problem with the car, as there was still only 80 kPa of pressure. Arg! At that time I was already $750+ slimer with my pocketbook. This morning he left a message saying the car is finally running smooth, but he had to replace the main pump. I haven'y event gathered up enough courage to ask about the final cost.
