Stumble on cold start. Possible problems? 200 1988

Did a major major service on a neglected 1988 sedan. Changed out everything--all belts, spec. plugs, rotor, rotor cap, fuel filter, all new fluids, new flame trap, cleaned throttle valve assembly, CIS motor, checked all vacuum lines, etc. Did not yet run a can of Heet and injector cleaner through it. Did not replace ignition wires.

On a cold morning start the car will start and die. Second time starts up and idles perfectly, no problem. It's almost as if the injectors aren't double-firing like they should on a cold start. Would an airmass meter that's starting to go cause this? After the car warms up though it starts right up. Possible faulty check valve back by fuel filter? Dick
