I have worked on a 1984 244 w/w pump, maybe yours is the same.
The pump can be removed from the reservoir, but when that happens, the small hose connecting the pump to the fluid will either break or be disconnected, so the fluid will come quickly out.
So, look carefully at the hoses and pump set-up. Look for a way to have the hose from the pump to the windshield be connected directly to the tank. Either before you remove the pump or quickly afterwards.
The pump is mounted onto the tank with a V-shaped thing, sort of like the way some towel rack end pieces are hooked to the bathroom wall.
It should come off the tank with a straight upward pull. Pull and wiggle sideways and see if that does it. Get the wiring harness off, and take the pump to your workbench.
The pump can be disassembled and cleaned out and, if you are lucky, the motor will work. Test it with the pump removed. Clean everything carefully and keep testing. Just a slow procedure, takes time to find all the mineral deposits and work them out. Ice pick, small flat tip, etc.
Then just put things back. The hoses to the windshield, and the nozzles, are likely to have some blockages, too. Clear them and you should have an OK system.
