Brake Caliper Removal 700

I am replacing the front calipers (Girling) on a 1990 740. The brake line fittings broke loose easily but how do you turn them enough rotations to get the fitting off the caliper? It seems like you can't twist the hose enough to get the fittings out. Do you have to removed the brake line where it connects to the steel tubing?

Thanks, this board is awesome, I would be lost without it.
