960 gearshift light 900 1997

Howdy!
Small issue with my otherwise happy 1997 960. The light that is supposed to tell me what gear I'm in has burnt out. It's been out since I got the car actually, and I just now got around to working on it.
I got the lower console section removed, exposing the shifter, but how do I actually get to the bulb? Will I need to remove the 4 10mm bolts that mount the whole shift unit to the frame?
I can only guess that it's in the white housing on the left side of the shifter(directly below the gear indicators), but I can find no way to get into it. I don't want to be forceful since I think that's where the PNP sensor is and don't want to risk damaging it.
So if anybody can give me some insight, I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks!
