i posted a few weeks ago about my 940 and the invisible wall it confronted when trying to go into drive. i would rev and rev and the car would not move, then eventually it would get over the hump and go, only to be faced with the same difficulty next time i parked it.
there were assumptions, both on my part and those who responded, that the differential was shot, gears stripped, etc. these assumptions, via further driving, have been proven false,
after backing out of my driveway and beginning to move down the street, i noticed a familiar grinding and clanking noise back in the differential area. i kept driving, and it got louder, then i heard the sound of metal hitting the ground. i stopped and got out to retrieve whatever had fallen off of my car.
what had fallen off my car was the blade of a chinese cleaver, snapped at the handle and a chunk out of the front corner, along with half round grooves worn into the blade edge. the handle may still be beneath my car for all i know.
it has been two weeks, the problem has never again reared its head, and i have yet to jack my car up to see what the hell was going on under there (it's colder than i am curious). i have two cleavers, one used for cooking and one for bait. my guess was that when i washed the bait cleaver i had left it in the driveway to dry, and somehow it managed to hop under my car and lodge. but after looking in my garage, the bait cleaver was discovered. my cooking cleaver was where it should be as well, so this means, well, i have no idea.
this is an absolutely true story, and i can't wait to get it up on a lift and see what was going on. i guess the question is whether this problem is confined to turbos or if it is common with all 940's?
