Bad Gas Mileage? And sometimes, sort of knocking sound on slow turns? 1994 945T 900

First off, I'm wondering how do you know what your current gas mileage is? I just bought this car and it seems to be as close to perfect as possible, but I feel like the gas mileage could be better. I drove close to 120 miles on half a tank, that just doesn't seems right. Like tonight, I filled it up and drove maybe 25-30 miles and the needle seemed to have moved pretty far for such a short distance. I do drive in SOME, but not too much, NYC traffic, and use 93 octane gas only.

Any ideas as what to check? I'm bringing the car in either this week or next for a tune up and want to tell him to check everything.

Also, I seem to have a very slight knocking sound, maybe coming from the front wheel area, that I can feel on the pedals. Could this be telling me I may need new bushings? Or something else.

As always thanks so much for all your help,

Barry
