Chirping left front wheel 900 1993

The 940 began exhibiting this weird noise a few weeks back when the really cold air hit New England. I've been drawing a blank as to the culprit, but it seems to be getting worse. The front left wheel is making a speed-related chirping sound. It seems to be loudest when really cold / first starting out. Braking does not affect it. Turning left (unloading that wheel) quiets the sound a bit. There are no other symptoms of any problems, brakes are good, suspension bushings and shocks/struts are good. Admittedly, I haven't investigated much, due to the extreme cold. The only thing that comes to mind is the wheel bearing, but I thought they made growling-type noises when they failed? Anybody else experienced this?
