OD wiring harness replacement 200

The OD light will not engage when I put the M46 tranny in 4th and push in the slelector switch on top of the shift knob. It used to work fine. I suspect it may be one of the wires that is broken. How hard is it to replace or ,better, repair the wires?
I imagine it is tricky to thread the new harness ($14.50 from IPD..I'll make my own). Any suggestions?
