940 brake booster 900

Power brakes went south yesterday. All vacuum connections seem to be in order and all other vacuum accesories work fine. I pulled the hose out of the booster when running and had good suction for a second before the engine died. I checked the FAQ and performed those tests. I pump the brakes 'dry' of vacuum, restart the car and get one or two partial applications of boost, then nothing. After the car has been run a minute or two, then shut off, I pulled the hose and get some vacuum suction noise. I was hoping it may be a bad grommet at the booster and put some vaseline on there, to no avail.
I guess what I'm looking for is for one of you to tell me that it's something cheap and easy instead of a new booster. I read something about a check valve, but haven't seen anything near the area that looks like one.
Thank you.....
Mark
