cat converter identification and condition 700 1987

I took my catalytic converter off to see if it had floating internal chunks or blockage. Came off easily, looks good externally, indicating it may not be very old (car is new to me).
My question is, how can I tell its general quality and internal condition? Can't see anything in there except a screen near the front. Is it a "good" brand or a cheapie? The only markings on it are numbers 6905 05 01 and NAT/CA D280-5 6000. It also has a big arrow plus IN and OUT -- would be kinda hard to reverse it anyway, what with the triangular flange!
It does not rattle when you shake it. How can you check flow through it?
