Hesitation in 1985 245DL Wagon 200 1985

Thanks to all who helped in the past - fixed some problems - now there's a slightly different one.

There is some occassional hesitation while driving, usually in 2nd or third gear, once in awhile in fourth. When it gets really bad, it will loose all power in First gear while trying to go from a dead stop. When that happens it sounds very "wimpy."

Sometimes, on the hesitation, pumping the gas peddle once or twice helps and when it looses power, turning off the key and restarting helps. No rhyme or reason. These things happen when the engine is cold or hot, when the outside temp is cold or hot, and when the tank is full or empty!

OH YEH - Lately the starter has been not engaging on the first try!

Here's what I've done recently:
Replaced Air Flow Mass Meter with used through junk yard, replaced internal fuel pump, replaced plugs and plug wires.

It ran great for a few days after these repairs, then started acting up. Funny thing is - when it doesn't act up, it sounds and runs great and even gets >25mpg!

It has been in the single digits to low teens here in southern Colorado, but I don't think that is causing these problems.

One last thing - has anyone run across a good Volvo mechanic in the Colorado Springs area? I don't think it would make it to Denver!

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!
