Seat heater grids, a few questions... 200 1980

I found a set of seat heater grids at the junk yard, and it looks like all the wires are all okay (non appear to be broken anyway).

Anyhow I have a few things I wonder about. As you can see below, that tape that holds the wires in place has started to dry out.

Now, what kind of tape can I put here instead? What is the original wire pattern of the black grid?

Does something go between the grid and the seat covers?

What else should I do while I have these grids out?

Did my ’80 245 DL come pre-wired with any of this stuff already in place? I know there isn’t a place for the switches yet, but that can be easily handled.

I'll have more questions later, that you can be sure of.

Thanks as always.
