'89 760 TI..... Heater Core removal in process ... Stuck. 700 1989

I posted a few weeks ago regarding a leaking heater core on '87 740 which is in Boston while I am in St. Louis. I got a lot of good help and advice here and I plan on canging it out when my daughter comes home in the spring.

Anyway, I came across a great buy on an almost immaculate '89 760 TI with 106,000 miles. (My first turbo Volvo.) Guess what! It too has a leaky heater core. I am in the midst of changing it out and have hit a stopping point. I am not sure if the entire dash has to come out or not. Unlike on the 740, the side panels to the center section where the radio mounts are not seperate from the dash. I have removed all the lower panels both sides, the knee bolster, the radio/cassette, all the dash vents, and I am about to remove the heater control panel (Automatic Clmate control).

I am trying to get the ducts out without removing the dash. The right side vent has some 'S-shaped' metal clips with hooks that bite into the plastic on both sides. Is there a trick to removing these without breaking something?

Will I have to remove the seats to get the ducts that go to the rear seating area out?

When I get all the ducts out will I be able to remove the distribution unit or will some of the screws still be inaccessable? I am particularly concerned about the screws at the top of it.

I suspect if I get this far, I will be able to remove the heater core. Any other pitfalls I should know about?

Thanks as always,

Dan
