Cluster wiring Diagram 200 1988

I purchaed a 1998 240 DL last summer, the speedometer worked but the odometer did not. I'm not sure it matters, but just in case, it is a K10042. I had purchased a new cluster, installed it, the speedometer was jumping all over, the odometer worked for about 2 miles, then I noticed smoke coming from the cluster and shut down the car.

I reinstalled my old cluster and again the speedometer worked but the odometer did not. I purchased a replacement cluster, same problem. The gear on my original was broke, the one on the replacement cluster was not. I replaced the gear on my original but it still did not work, but again, the speedometer on both did and does. I'm wondering if somehow I've screwed up the wiring, I've been careful to rewire it as it was, but it may have been miswired when I purchased it, the car does have cruise control. Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how it is supposed to be.
