Frustrating Radio Install Problem -- HELP!!! 700 1990

I'm installing an aftermarket Radio/CD deck in my 1990 740GL wagon and I've run into a problem that I just can solve.

I've followed the install directions from www.installdr.com: Removed the amplifier, cut the speaker wires and run them to the radio slot in the dash and left the other wires in the amp connector untouched.

I couldn't find a wiring harness in any of the stores nearby, so I cut out the existing connector and followed the instructions from installdr.com: connected the green/red battery wire to the yellow wire, the orange ignition wire to the red wire and the black ground to the black ground. I've checked the ground and ignition wire and they seem to be correct. I get power to the new connector, but when I plug the connector into the new deck, NOTHING.

Any ideas on what could be wrong? The fuses are fine. I have power to the connector. When I shut of the key, the power goes off to the ignition wire, which is correct. But the radio won't power on. What could I be doing wrong??!!!!!!
