Is an M46 tranny worth rebuilding?? 200 1983

I just rebuilt the OD unit on son's 83 145, but the M46 tranny seems too solid to be part on some landfill. It has 230K miles and jumps out of 2nd gear under acceleration. Otherwise an OK tranny. I suspect the synchronizer cones are worn.
I've heard that these trannys are so common, it is cheaper to get one from the Junkyard than to try to rebuild one.
The FAQ for the 740 manual tranny does not give any hints, etc on rebuilding the actual tranny only the OD. Is it because no one does it?
should I contribute to the degredation of the environment or bite the bullet and rebuild the tranny?
gracias, or grassy ass (if you are working under your Brick in south Texas),
