Car Accident; Getting Reimbursed for Inherent Diminished Value 200 1980

A semi hit my 1980 242 DL and caused $1,400 worth of damage (they accepted liability). The car was fixed and not declared a total loss. I'm trying to recover loss for inherent diminished value (IDV). My insurance company doesn't pay for that. The truck's insurance wants me to pay out of my pocket for an appraiser and prove to them the IDV. Any tips? I'm in Kalifornia (hi, Arnold!)
