Car stalls while driving . . . could be water related 200

Hi everyone - I posted a few days ago but didn't get much response. Please help!! I bought the 77,000 mile 1988 240 in October last year from an estate. Well maintained one owner car. The 87 year old man, whose estate was selling the car, drove the car very little in the last years - had a complete tuneup in 1997, and then only drove an additional 16,000 miles to the time when I bought it. The first week when I bought it there was some wet weather and the car stalled several times once when I was out. Then next day stalled a few times and then all was well. Ran real well until a few days ago when the same thing happened. Car ran well, it was dry outside, I took it through a car wash, and then stalled about 10 times just trying to get the 5 miles home. Today it's still stalling when driving (it is dry but cold outside), most notably when you let up on the accelerator. I looked at the ignition wires and distributer cap and they look very good, although I'm no expert. I heard someone say there could be water in the tank? Maybe the fuel pump, although it ran well for 3 months, and in wet weather too . . . I dunno. Any ideas? Thanks, Fred
