Rocker panels -- what kind of paint ? 200 1989

Bonjour Bricksters,

Can't find adequate info in the archives.

Trim is removed and I would like to touch up on a couple rusty spots. I don't want to paint the entire rocker panel.

1) Any recomandations on paint? Brand and color? I don't want to apply undercoating, something as close as possible to stock, the greyish flat paint.

Rocker panels seem like a weak spots, and you can't get underneath (on the other side) to check their state. I see only an opening near front wheel.

2) Any recommandations/maintenance tips to keep rocker panels rust free.
The trim seems to be the culprit, it traps water and débris inside against the rocker panel, specially front of trim.

Thanks.
