700 differentials, Limited Slip and Eaton Locking Rear Ends. 700

I know that Volvo introduced the Eaton Locker in the 1991 940 turbos, and maybe the 1991 740 turbos. I would also expect to find the Eaton locker in the 780s.

It is pretty easy to distinguish a locking rear end from a limited slip rear end. Just jack up one tire and turn it. If there is lots of resistance, you have a lsd. If it turns easy, it is a locker. I can accelerate/spin the one tire fast enough, by hand, to get the locking mechanism to work when I have both rear tires up. When you perform that test, you can feel the rear end lock up.
