Full flush for auto tranny via 'run-through' method? 700 1987

I saw an old Volvo post that said you could be sure of draining all the fluid from an automatic transmission (assume that means torque converter also) by:
- disconnect A/T cooling line at the radiator - attach hose to run into a container - start engine in neutral - catch old fluid in container - at the same time, continuously add new fluid through dipstick tube until it "runs clear" (has new color?) . May take up to 10 quarts.
Does this have any danger of damaging the tranny? Will it totally replace fluid in gearbox and converter?
