Faulty IAC? 700 1990

I have been experiencing high idle on cold start (2500rpm) and low idle when warmed up. I cleaned the IAC with carb cleaner, and that fixed the high idle, but still the engine will stall after running idle for 5 minutes due to low revs.

I'll clean it more, but wonder if it's correct that there is a gap of about 2mm in the closed position looking down the outlet tube.
See the uploaded image, where I have drawn two red lines to show the gap.

The IAC is sealed, and has a two pin connector. I've found the price of a new Bosch IAC varies between £53 GBP and £122!

Can anyone confirm the 2mm gap is correct?
