O/D button on my stick shift 200 1982

Since the light always comes on, the 4th gear switch is OK. Look at the connectors on the solenoid and the yellow wire itself for damage.

The wires like to break inside the insulation without breaking the insulation.

With ignition on, engine OFF, gear in 4th button pusjed so light is on.

Wiggle yellow wires and the terminals on the solenoid. When the solenoid clicks, you have found your problem.

IF doing the above does not locate the problem, you will probably have to remove the solenoid and replace the O-rings inside the solenoid.
