Oil coming out of fill cap 900 1994

Dear Bill,

Good p.m. I'd like to amplify Dan's message. If you're not familiar with the flame trap, then you need to become so, urgently.

It is located atop and beside the valve cover, between the 3rd and 4th cylinders.

It is the crankcase vent. If the plastic filter is plugged, pressure builds up, and oil is forced past seals. If through the front seals, it can lead to premature timing belt failure.

No tools are needed to access the flame trap. You can gently disengage the holder from the hoses. Be careful with the small hose: the nipple can be snapped easily. Remove the plastic insert. If it is clogged, replace it. You can clean it with brake cleaner, as a stop-gap measure. The part will cost $2-3 at a dealer.

Clean the trap every 5K miles and change it every 10K miles.

Hope this solves the problem.

Yours faithfully,

spook
