Thanks for the advice last week, I replaced front wheel bearings today. But I still have the intermitant grinding noise when coming to a stop. When the noise shows up it is related to wheel turning speed, and will be around for a few stops, then gone for a few stops. The noise is more likely in mellow slowing then a hard stop.
This weekend I inspected everything as I pulled the hub. Everything looked OK, but I wanted to cross the bearing possibility off my list. Calipers were tight, pads worn over half but even, rotors evenly worn, bearings were slightly loose but close, control arm bushes intact w/o play (that I can tell).
I'd like to know how to prioritize my next steps.
1) A brickboarder suggested well used pads can stick on the pins and get cocked at an angle. I couldn't see this today, but it could exlain the intermittancy. New pads are cheap and easy.
2) Go through and tighten every suspension or steering bolt. A longshot, but maybe it's a vibration?
3) Replace control arm bushings, more vibration theory.
4) Maybe upper strut bushing?
