got the old 2 start problem when my 1990 240 is cold 200 1990

fellow volvo drivers,

my 1990 240 dl standard shift wagon has 120K miles and is running about as well as it ever has.

however, when the temperature is around freezing or below, it almost always stalls when I am backing about half way out of my driveway.

when i start the car the second time, it almost always stays running.

note that the car does start easily and that the engine revs pretty high at first when the temp is cold. i would say that the high revs last about 30 seconds or so. (in fact the stall may well occur at the end of the high idle period.)

if i were to let the car idle without backing the car out of my garage, it usually will not stall out and once it is warm it is ok.

do any of you know what my problem is? of course i could just let it warm up in my garage each time i start it, but i am not usually that patient.

my 1989 240 sedan automatic does not have this problem.

any help is appreciated.
