instrument cluster removal 200 1983

I want to upgrade my instrument cluster by replacing the very large clock with a tachometer. My first question is if the cables/pins/attachments for a tach are already present on my automatic DL? The second is if I need to remove the steering wheel to remove the cluster? I tried already, the cables are so taught that I guess I have to disconnect before pulling out. Even though the books say to simply unscrew and remove. So my last question is how do I disconnect the cables? The books give no directions for this.

By the way, thank you everyone for all of your previous help!!!
