Help please - 1990 240 DL arrow on dash 200

Hi there,

I am very new to volvos and was hoping someone could help me out. I just bought a very clean 240 that did fantastic through a test drive, but I was curious about the up arrow lit up constantly on the lower left corner of the dash. When I was dinking around with the shifter, it would go off if I would shift into 2nd, but come back on in drive.

I noticed in the C70 forums, there is a winter mode with an indicator on the dash, is this also true for the 240 series?
