Electricalshort headlight/turn signal/ stalling! question 700 1991

Ok, so I just replaced the heater core on my just acquired
'91 Volvo 740 turbo wagon. Now, the left (drivers side) head
light is dim and there seems to be a short between it and
the turn signal. When the turn signal is flashing, the headlight
high beam flashes, and when I turn on the brights, the second (flasher)
filament on the turn signal bulb lights up. If the headlights are
on, the flasher is very dim, but if the headlights are off,
the flasher is at normal brightness. More strangely,
the engine dies if I turn the brights on. If the headlights
are off and I flash the brights, the egine doesn't die.
I changed the bulbs, so it ain't there. Did I do something
bad when I moved the relay tray to get to the
heater core (you have to move it back and forth a lot
to get to everything.

HELP!
