tranny swap advice 900 1993

I want to put an M46 in my 1993 945 turbo. A friend has a winter 1987 740 turbo with the M46. He's willing to let me use his parts for the swap if we can set his up with a slushbox. OK, this sounds crazy, but I really want the stick in my brick.

Anyway, from the FAQ, I think I have an idea on putting the M46 in my car. A couple of initial questions:

1. Will my auto fit in his 87, or should I get one out of a yard?
2. Should I have the M46 rebuilt before the install? It has around 170K miles on it.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dave
