Regarding struts:
You get what you pay for. Boge turbo gas will give you a much more controled ride (read - safer for your son). Plus they have a lifetime warrantee. So yes they are more expensive, but I think the Boge is unquestuionably a better value than Gabriel.

Regarding springs: I agree, this would be a good time to do them as well, since you will have them off anyway to replace struts/shocks. Replacement springs can be had for $35 each (front & rear) and that includes upgrading the rear to "overload" if you have a wagon. ( order them at www.fcpgroton.com )

Your son's car will be safer, and will ride like new (well, almost)!
