Alternator Problems

Yeah last night I had some unreal problems. First the instrument panel lights started to blink when the car was on. The brake failure, battery, Headlight, and abs lights were on. So I check out all the fuses and connections. They were fine and good. But, the lights were still on though. So I brought it to Autozone. They hooked up a diag. machine to the battery and the girl said the reading so to low to see if the alternator was bad. They told me to bring it back tommorow to check it. So we figured there must be a problem becuase the dash light gradually got dimmer over time. So we headed over to another Autozone nearby. AS we were going there the car was losing significant power. They headlights were becoming dimmer. SO we knew that the battery was dying due to the bad alternator. We saw the reading of 8 volts that the battery was giving out. IT is supposed to be 12v. But anyways we got home safety, but the ride home was without any accessories even the headlights at 9PM at night ,which was bad.

The real question is how hard is it to take out the alternator and put a new one in?

I am probably going to get a used one from the local boneyard in my area!
