heat/ac fan switch on 1983 245 dl 200

heat/ac fan switch only worked on posistions 3 and 4 so I went to the local junk yard and scrapped one out of a junker and after I installed it also only works on posistions 3 and 4. Neither 1 or 2 work on either. My thoughts are leading to that the fan is getting old and the juice passing through posistions 1 and 2 aren't enough to push it. If this is the case can the fan be exchanged without ripping the whole dash apart? Also this junk yard has about 10 240 series cars and many 7 series. I'm not sure whats left in the 240's so can fan motors 7 series cars be use in the 240's if the fan motoris the problem?
