purchase an 86' 245 automatic?

Nathan,
How much are we talking? I got an '86 245DL with 195k 4sp w/OD for $400 2 years ago and I use it all the time, geat winter car.Still passes inspection too.
The tranmision leak is probably the rear extension housing seal. The reason it leaks is because the tailshaft bushing goes around 150-180k miles. The clunk into second may be because of the bushing/seal.I would still change every fluid on the car, every hydraulic component benefits from fresh fluid.
In Maine if the car is over 15 years you don't need a title to get it registered.
P.S. you check the trans fluid with the car running(normal temp) after slowly going thru the gears and then waiting 2 mins.Park on a level surface.
