no turbo boost overnight 700 1986

I woke this week to drive to work and immediately noticed no, as in zero, turbo boost. I was always told that a turbo will act up before it goes bad?
Could there be a simple explanation such as a bad vacuum hose, fuse, or inlet hose? The turbo is a later watercooled Volvo unit. The car runs just fine except the boost issue.
I've really enjoyed this car for 8 years and 165,000 miles but can't justify spending $ 1500.00 to replace the turbo again.
If this is the case someone would love to have this car as a performance parts car.
Thanks for the help.
