shock/strut question 700

I'm in the process of getting a pair of Bilstien TCs for the rear of my 91 740. I just want a smoother ride, so I don't really want the Heavy Duty. But everything I've ever read here says that Bilstien's are well made.

Anyway, my question is, should I go ahead and replace all 4 shocks/struts now or wait and see if the rear help enough?

Should I replace the springs now as well? What gives a better bang for the buck? Does the spring control the ride quality more or does the shock/strut?

thanks
