Ignition Timing adjustment in B230FT? 700 1991

Howdy,

I will be changing the timing belt next week. Aside from lining up the marks notches on the cam and crank pulley with the corresponding ones on the front of the engine to get it to TDC before attaching the crank holding special tool, what other purpose do the timing numbers on the plate have?

I was under the impression that timing was non-adjustable once the belt is placed on the gears correctly.

Also, I have read on this board that the B230F engine is free-running, but other sources say that it is an interference design. Anyone know for SURE?

Thanks.
