heater core bypass 200 1985

hi,

i was wondering if all i had to do to bypass (temporarily til i have more time) the heater core was just set the cabin temperature control lever to the coldest setting? i'd much rather do that then physically bypass the heater core by connecting the core inlet and output hoses either in the engine bay or under the dash. thanks in advance for any advice.
